As a new mother, being a mother myself, I can advise that you will need good nursing pads or breast pads if you are breastfeeding.
I was not a fan of the disposable breast pad options, and I can tell you from experience that this option will be quite expensive.
However, I opted for washable breast pads, which, I must say, easily pop into the washing machine with the rest of your clothes and baby clothes.
Then again, choosing the right material for nursing pads can be daunting.
I chose bamboo nursing pads for their durability, soft texture, and extremely high absorbency.

Will You Need Breast Pads
Breast pads, sometimes called nursing pads, are flat, round discs you place over your nipples and under your bra to prevent milk spills on your clothes while breastfeeding.
New mommies need them, and it’s worth researching and investing in the right products.
You have two options: disposable or washable.
The disposable option is similar to a sanitary pad, but it goes on your nipples and is much thinner, in my opinion. Disposable breast pads are less hassle because you dispose of them and use a new pair. But they are expensive and can sometimes cause an allergic reaction for you or your baby. Likewise, they aren’t the most eco-friendly option unless you use natural disposable nursing pads, which are even more expensive.
Then there are washable breast pads. Yes, they were expensive initially. If you do not mind, you can always get a second-hand pair if you wash and disinfect them properly. There is nothing wrong with that. However, most of us want a new one.
Washable breast pads must be washed, and I will not leave them in the wash for longer than three days. You can most definitely add them to the rest of your washing. Just check their washing instructions.
For washable breast pads, you can use cotton, which is soft and reasonably absorbent but tends to stretch and not last long; I found hemp quite hard and scratchy. On the other hand, they were my favorite: they are by far the most absorbent, quite soft (not as soft as cotton, but still soft), and they don’t lose shape and last much longer.
However, remember that with bamboo fabric, you cannot use softeners or bleach in the wash if you want to machine-wash them. You can handwash, but then again, who has time for that?
You will also need a few breast pads. I recommend going with two pairs per day. That should be adequate.
Pros and Cons of Bamboo Nursing Pads
As with everything in life, there are also some pros and cons with bamboo nursing or breast pads that I want to add to give you the full spectrum on the subject;

- Cons – Because nursing pads are often double or triple-layered, they take some time to dry. Bamboo dries fast but slower than microfiber, polyester, and synthetic materials. Take note. Bamboo nursing pads aren’t as soft as cotton, but I’ve never found them uncomfortable. Bamboo Nursing pads must be line-dried because they are naturally washed with softener or bleach, unlike cotton and synthetic materials. Most can not be tumble dried, as many have a waterproof lining.

Also, cross-check these pads with a bra that hides back fat or is compatible with nursing pads, because the wrong pad size can make your bra fit too tight. If you use one, check the fit first to avoid future problems.
