As a new mother, being a mother myself, I can advise that you will need good nursing pads or breast pads if you are breastfeeding.
I was not a fan of the disposable breast pad options, and I can tell you from experience that this option will be quite expensive.
However, I opted for washable breast pads, which, I must say, easily pop into the washing machine with the rest of your clothes and baby clothes.
Then again, the question of what material types to use in nursing pads is also quite daunting.
I opted for Bamboo Nursing pads because of their durability, soft texture, and extremely high absorbency capabilities.

Will You need Breast Pads
Breast pads, sometimes called nursing pads, are flat pieces of material in a round disc shape that you pace over your nipples and under your bra to prevent milk spills on your clothes when breastfeeding.
New mommies are absolutely necessary and worth researching and investing in the right products.
You have two breast or nursing pad options, including disposable or washable options.
The disposable option is similar to a sanitary pad, which goes on your nipples, just much thinner, well, in my opinion. Disposable breast pads are much less hassle because you dispose of them and take out a new pair. But they are expensive and sometimes can cause an allergenic reaction for you or your baby. Likewise, they are not the best eco-friendly options unless you use natural disposable nursing pads, which are even more expensive.
Then, we get to the washable breast pads. Yes, they were expensive initially. If you do not mind, you can always get a second-hand pair if you wash and disinfect them properly. There is nothing wrong with that. However, most of us want a new one.
Washable breast pads must be washed, and I will not leave them in the wash for longer than three days. You can most definitely add them to the rest of your washing. Just check their washing instructions.
Regarding materials for washable breast pads, you get cotton, which is soft and reasonably absorbent but tends to stretch and not last very long; hemp, I found, is quite hard and scratchy. On the other hand, they were my favorite; they are by far the most absorbent, quite soft, not as soft cotton, but still soft, and they do not lose shape and, in turn, last much longer.
However, you will need to remember that with bamboo fabric, you cannot use softeners or bleach in your washing if you want to wash them in the machine. You can handwash, but then again, who has time for that?
You will also need a few breast pads. I recommend going with two pairs per day. That should be adequate.
Pros and Cons of Bamboo Nursing Pads
As with everything in life, there are also some pros and cons with bamboo nursing or breast pads that I want to add to give you the full spectrum on the subject;
- Pros – Bamboo nursing pads are the most absorbent option. However, you must check as they come in different layer options. They are soft and very comfortable and will not easily lose shape. - Cons – Because often, nursing pads are double or triple; layers take some time to dry. Bamboo dries fast but slower than microfiber, polyester, and synthetic materials. Take note. Bamboo nursing pads are not as soft as cotton, but I never found them uncomfortable. Bamboo Nursing pads must be lined dried because they are naturally washed using softener or bleach, such as cotton and synthetic materials. Most can not be tumble dried, as many have a waterproof lining.

- Materail – Your bamboo breast or nursing pads must contain 1005 pure bamboo materials. They can be rayon, viscose, or natural bamboo, which are all different weaves of bamboo. Sometimes, the breast pads may have a synthetic waterproof lining.
- Size – Bamboo nursing pads are available in a few size options, so you must check for this. Could you make sure that the size covers your personal needs? Moreover, you will need to cross-check these pads with the bra that hides back fat or is compatible with nursing pads, as if you choose the wrong size pads they will make your bra fitting tight. So, if you use such a bra, please check the fitting first to avoid any future problems.
