Best Bamboo Diapers

So you may have heard the hype about bamboo Diapers, and yes, it is a big thing and a much healthier alternative for your baby.

However, you need to know that Bamboo diapers come in two forms, reusable and disposable diapers, of which I have included both options.

No bamboo diaper will be 100% bamboo, other natural fibers may be used, but they are eco-friendly and hypoallergenic, containing no chemicals and harmful elements.

Disposable Bamboo Nappies

Bamboo Diapers
The Disposable Bamboo nappy is an excellent choice if you are looking for an easier and quicker solution to diapers for your baby, especially for newborns that go through quite a bit of diaper at first.

Disposable Bamboo diapers are hypoallergenic and safe for your baby as they do not contain harmful chemicals, are mostly natural, and are just as absorbent and reliable as most synthetic diapers.

However, they still need to be disposed of even though they are biodegradable; it will take some time.

Bamboo disposable nappies will have a bamboo shell and fibers for absorbency with a cotton fiber cover against babies’ skin, as bamboo can dry against the skin. Bamboo disposable nappies may also contain other absorbency materials, usually viscose derived from bamboo.

Re-Usable Bamboo Nappies

Bamboo Diapers
Now, I do not want to go too in-depth with reusable Bamboo nappies, as it is something quite extensive that you may want to do a bit of further research.

As you will see, I have included a Pocket Bamboo nappy, a waterproof shell with a pocket inside where you place your absorbent layers, and a soft layer on the inside where you place your liner. Then I have included the AIO, which is all one nappy that already contains all the needed layers that are stitched into the nappy, whoever you will still need a liner.

These are the newer, fancy cloth nappy options.

You get the regular square nappies that you fold, they are a bit more effort, and you will need separate covers and absorbent layers for them, so I have not included this option in the review section.

Bamboo reusable nappies need to be washed and cannot stay longer than three days before washing; you also need to rinse off soiled nappies and may need to use a sprayer in your toilet to get the solid matter off.

They are more effort but more cost-effective, eco-friendly, and can be lots of fun once you see all the lovely prints and designs.
Let me explain the layers of the Bamboo Diaper to you and where the bamboo comes in;

  • Shell – the shell will consist of a waterproof material that is usually not natural and more of a polyester, with a printed or colorful outside cover that has snaps for you to adjust the size of the nappy.
  • Inside the Shell – The Pocketed nappy will have an opening with a microfiber or cotton cover over it. In contrast, your AIO nappy will have the Microfiber or cotton cover on the top as a layer.
  • Absorbent Layers – Here is where the bamboo comes in. You place bamboo material layers that are usually three or four-layered bamboo fabric on top of each other inside the pocket of the nappy; with your AIO, it will already be in place.
  • Top Layer – Bamboo is absorbent and drying, so you do not want it against your baby’s skin. You could use a disposable bamboo liner as a top layer, or for a reusable option, Fleece liners are used. The liner is used to hold solids and draws wetness away from your baby’s skin; it makes cleaning the nappy easier.

That, in a nutshell, is the basic layers of a reusable bamboo nappy.

Features of a Good Bamboo Diaper

  • Disposable – the disposable bamboo nappy will consist of bamboo fibers, viscose, cotton, or other blended materials for absorbency.
  • Reusable – the Reusable bamboo nappy will have a waterproof shell with absorbent bamboo layers and a fleece liner or disposable liner option. Bamboo reusable diapers do come in many color and print options.
